The standardization project IEEE P1901 keeps on growing

According to Jean-Philippe Faure, IEEE P1901 project Co-Chair & Ilevo VP standardization, 'the PLC standardization process launched by IEEE is becoming more and more important within the industry of Broadband powerlines, constantly attracting new members worldwide'. In fact, 6 new members recently joined the IEEE P1901 committee: IBM (USA), Texas Instruments (USA), PLC Utilities Alliance (EU), SiConnect (EU), Xeline (Asia), Toyo Network Systems Co. Ltd. (Asia).
Regarding the workplan, a major decision has been taken during last meeting in Orlando (end of March) with the approval of the 'down selection process' concerning the different technologies.
The more important work in progress is now to develop a unified set of requirements, on the basis of members inputs, and compile it in a reference document to support the call for technical submissions. These requirements are grouped in 3 clusters: In-home networks (home and building), Access & coexistence - interoperability.
